The GCE movement has been closely monitoring the organization of the upcoming Summit of the Future (SOTF). The GCE Secretariat and many GCE members have presented powerful suggestions, comments, and direct requests for inclusion in the Pact for the Future, which is the main political outcome of these events.

Given the scope that the UN has adopted for the Summit of the Future and the initial draft of the Pact for the Future, it is evident that central aspects of the human right to education and lifelong learning have been sidelined. Worse, education does not even appear as one of the central chapters of the SOFT.

Having seen this, the GCE Board has decided to promote an Open Letter to Global Leaders, asking them to intervene with the Co-Facilitators of the Summit (H.E. Neville M. Gertze, Permanent Representative of Namibia to the UN, and H.E. Antje Leendertse, Permanent Representative of Germany to the UN). We urge them to embrace educational considerations in all sessions of the Summit of the Future and to include them substantively in the Pact for the Future and the Declaration on Future Generations.
