Accelerating Access to Quality, Free, Inclusive Public Education in 2020

Coinciding with the 20th Anniversary of the Global Campaign for Education (GCE), we witness the arrival of 2020, leaving behind a year that had many painful events, and unfulfilled promises in the process of defending and protecting education as a human RIGHT.

It is now two decades since the birth of GCE, and now, as the campaign is still in its youth, it is imperative that we should continue to work with the vigour and passion that characterise us to ensure education remains an inviolable right.

From our humble beginnings to more than 120 members today, we work with the confidence that the Global Campaign for Education will be the glimmer of hope and a movement that does not focus on education as an isolated issue, but also links it to the social interaction that is inseparable from a political vision.

The GCE stands firm to its values to protect those who are vulnerable, to defend the right to education, which is repeatedly violated by many, and to influence policies around the world. While welcoming this new year 2020 and celebrating two decades of progress since the campaign was launched, let us renew our determination to expand our reach and strengthen our movement. It is our responsibility to make every effort in order to broaden partnerships and provide guarantees for sustainability, because supporting GCE is to support a vision and a commitment to achieving the goals of education for all with its values of inclusiveness, equity, justice, equality and quality.

The Global Campaign for Education has become a global reality, with a human nature. For the sake of vulnerable and marginalised children, for the sake of adult learners, for the sake of our aspirations for the future, the campaign will continue its efforts. This is because we have believed and will continue to believe that despite great challenges, there is always hope at the end of the tunnel. We send our respect and love to all the pioneers whose courageous actions contributed to the creation of GCE, and salute all the efforts of our national coalitions, partners and supporters.

GCE remains committed to galvanising support and creating a sustainable pool of knowledge, ideas, resources and expertise on achieving SDG 4.

We will continue the fight, trusting that success is the ally of those who believe in the idea that qualitative efforts are associated with qualitative results, and that the right to education will be a reality for all.

GCE’s work is unique. We transcend territories, ethnic and linguistic disparities and we have been able to establish a single ambition for a promising future for the education sector. The greater purpose of making education for all a reality defy all our differences, melting them together in combined and unified actions to overcome the challenges that lie ahead.

Happy GCE’s Anniversary to all of you and to the broader movement, which over the past years has accumulated remarkable successes that make us proud.

Happy New Year, may 2020 be full of successful endeavours towards the accomplishment of our mission.
