We started the week with a bang! Global Action Week for Education (GAWE) 2026 was launched virtually today, 20 April 2026.
The launch webinar brought together GCE members, youth and student movements, teachers’ unions, regional coalitions, and international partners to call for accountability to SDG 4, increased public investment in education, global financial reform, and broad-based public mobilisation.
Speakers included GCE President Refat Sabbah, GCE Global Coordinator Grant Kasowanjete, representatives from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, Education International, regional education coalitions, and youth and student-led organisations.
During the event, GCE also officially launch its new website, designed to strengthen advocacy, showcase members’ work, and support coordinated global action for the right to education.
More information about the webinar will be available soon.

About GAWE 2026
With the tagline, ‘Hold the Flame High for Education’, GAWE is being held from 20-25 April, focussing on defending and increasing financing for quality public education in the face of mounting global crises, shrinking aid, and the growing privatisation of education.
Join us to hold the flame high for education and demand that governments and the international community invest in education systems that leave no one behind.
