What happened in Action Week 2008? The Pakistan Coalition for Education (PCE) working with member organisations carried out several GCE activities including highlighting education for excluded children and creating dialogue between politicians, children and parents.
PCE conducted activities including the World’s Biggest Lesson in 40 districts, 4 provinces and at federal level. They also conducted seminars to increase the budget for education. PCE continues to lobby the Ministry of Education to have a comprehensive policy for excluded children.
The All Pakistan Government School Teachers Association (APGSTA) used Action Week to raise awareness of the problems of high pupil teacher ratio and untrained teachers. To publicise Global Action Week APGSTA issued a press release that was reported in local newspapers and published a magazine detailing the themes of Education for All.
The World’s Biggest Lesson took place in schools throughout the country and politicians and students participated. In the Royal Academy School in Karachi APGSTA organised a joint session with the Central Organization of Teachers (COT) union which included over 400 participants.

What happened in Action Week 2007?
Throughout the week the Pakistan Coalition for Education (PCE) organised seminars, press conferences, public walks and a human chain to shed light on Education Rights, across 45 districts.
More than 10,000 signatures were collected from people demanding ‘Free Good Quality Education’. Posters in Urdu advertised Action Week and more than 50,000 people became aware of the Action Week theme Education as a Basic Human Right.
Policy makers, public representatives and key officials attended the events, including Provincial Education Minister, Imran Masood who demonstrated commitment and the Education State Minister, Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli who led a walk through Islamabad.
Progress is urgently needed in Pakistan, where only 53% of the population is literate. In demand of action now, campaigners formed a human chain outside the Parliament House, and people marched in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
