High-Level Political Forum 2022 Information Sheet
The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) meeting in 2022 will be held from Tuesday, 5 July, to Thursday, 7 July, and from Monday, 11 July, to Friday, 15 July 2022, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. This includes the three-day ministerial segment of the forum from Wednesday, 13 July, to Friday, 15 July 2022, as a part of the high-level segment of the Council.
The theme for the HLPF 2022 will be “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.
The HLPF is the leading United Nations platform on sustainable development. It has a central role in the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level.
As part of its follow-up and review mechanisms, the 2030 Agenda encourages member states to conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels, which are country-led and country-driven”. These national reviews are expected to serve as a basis for the regular reviews by the HLPF.

Major Groups and Other Stakeholders
Member States have stressed the need for the HLPF to promote transparency and implementation by further enhancing the consultative role and participation of the Major Groups and other relevant stakeholders at the international level to better use their expertise while retaining the intergovernmental nature of discussions. The Major Groups and Other Stakeholders include non-governmental and non-profit organisations, business and industry, and local authorities.
Major Groups and other Stakeholders (MGoS) were integral to developing and adopting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Since its adoption, MGoS have been actively working towards its implementation through projects, initiatives, advocacy, knowledge sharing, and monitoring of the 2030 Agenda. MGoS often work in partnership with other sectors, including governments. Most of the MGoS represent the civil society sector and try to be the voice of those that can´t directly participate in the HLPF.
The Global Campaign for Education is one of the Education and Academia Stakeholder Groups, together with ICAE and the Global Student Forum.

Registration: HLPF 2022 registration will be open shortly. It is expected that all approved registrants will be allowed access to UN premises (secondary badges may be required for access to meeting rooms). However, due to COVID-19, the situation remains fluid and subject to final confirmation from senior management (from the UN as well as the NY State Departments). There will be more clarity once the call for registration is open, which is likely by the end of this month. The pandemic is not getting worse in the NY/US; it may be safe to assume that all approved registrants will have access to the UN premises. We’ll keep you updated.

Voluntary National Reviews
As part of its follow-up and review mechanisms, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development encourages member states to "conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels, which are country-led and country-driven". These national reviews are expected to serve as a basis for the regular reviews by the high-level political forum (HLPF), meeting under the auspices of ECOSOC. Regular reviews by the HLPF are to be voluntary, state-led, undertaken by both developed and developing countries, and involve multiple stakeholders, including GCE National Education Coalitions, which might have the chance to participate in the review session as part of the EASG.

GCE Secretariat encourages its members operating in countries reporting this year, to prepare and present spotlights reports. A Capacity Building Workshop on Civil Society Spotlight Reports for the HLPF 2022 was held, so, please check the recording HERE.
Side Events
The GCE Secretariat is organising three side events, and an exhibition focused on the Education in Emergencies Campaign.
Given the ongoing situation linked to COVID-19, it has been decided that all Side events and Exhibitions on the margins of the 2022 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be held virtually.
