On November 22, 2022, the GCE members and stakeholders, including government officials, UN representatives, and members of the academia, convened for the three days 7th GCE World Assembly under the theme “The Future of Education Re-Imagined”.

The 7th GCE World Assembly kicked off on this day and placed the voices and experiences of youth and students at the forefront of the official opening session through the exhibition of youth and student-led initiatives from the GCE regional constituencies from Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and North America, as well as Asia and the Pacific regions.

Some key highlights from the youth and student initiatives included the work carried out to support Afro-descent people in Mexico to liberate the marginalised and excluded groups in Mexico, the role of Africans in inclusive and transformative education in Cameroon, and some reflections on the lack of access to reflective platforms for young people.

The youth and student delegate also emphasised the need to facilitate intergenerational dialogue and participation of youth in educational policy processes so that policy could reflect youth realities and prepare young people to address climate change and better finance education programs that leave no one behind.

The youth and student delegates included Carmen Romero (Europe Student’s Union), Ester Simon  (All Africa Students’ Union), Carelle Kaze (Africa Network Campaign on Education for All), David Gómez Arriaga (CADEM-Mexico), Marwan Gamba (Commonwealth Students Association), Busiso Khanye (Zimbabwe National Students Union), Lutfiyya Dean (All Africa Students' Union), Doris Mwikali (UNESCO SDG4 Network), and Sebastian Berger (Global Students Forum).

These youth and student representatives were pleased to have the opportunity to address the GCE Assembly and expressed appreciation to the GCE movement for its determination to involve and include youth and students in the movement at all levels.
