The 20th Anniversary of the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) is a significant moment for the education movement as a whole. GCE is celebrating 20 years of advocating for the right to free, quality, inclusive public education for all.

This is an ideal moment for all to join us in amplifying some of the successes and gains achieved in the education movement for the past 20 years. This celebration also presents an opportunity to reflect on setbacks and deepen our collective action moving forward.

• 20 years ago the revolutionary coalition formed between NGO’s including @ActionAid, @Oxfam and @kNOwChildLabour strengthening advocacy for the right to free, quality, inclusive public education #GCE20thAnniversary #Together4Education
• Through CSEF (Civil Society Education fund) the number of countries participating has grown from 45 at the end of the first phase to 63 by 2019 including the expansion between 2012 and 2014, into the Middle East and Eastern Europe regions #GCE20thAnniversary #Together4Education
• Through CSEF, the number of coalitions with ongoing engagement in government-led policy processes increased with more strengthening their efforts to actively participate and ensure the inclusion of CSO voices in education policy dialogues #GCE20thAnniversary #Together4Education

• #GCE20thAnniversary #Together4Education GCE’s successes are linked to the important role of its regional networks such as the Africa Network Campaign for Education for All (ANCEFA), Asia- South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE), Latin American Campaign for the Right to Education (CLADE) and Arab campaign for education for All.
• The first Global Action Week for Education (GAWE) was held in 2003. Since then, GAWE has become an action galvanising time for movements working on education for. The 2019 them was around “My Education, My Right(s): Making the right to an inclusive, equitable, quality, free public education a reality” #GCE20thAnniversary #Together4Education
• The 1GOAL Campaign @join1goal of 2009 mobilised over 18 million signatures and millions of funding towards education. A clarion call was made on world leaders and over 200 stars including, Matt Damon, Shakira, Jessica Alba, Queen Rania Al Abdullah and John Legend and world citizens pledged funding. • The Global Partnership for Education Dakar 2018 replenishment conference saw the end of the continued decrease in investment in education after intensive campaigning from GCE members at the national level, and raised hope to achieve SDG4 targets if all pledges were realised #GCE20thAnniversary #Together4Education
