What happened in Action Week 2008?
The World's Biggest Lesson in Lebanon included people of all backgrounds and experiences including children and adults who had never been to school. UNESCO Beirut organized a round table on Quality Education to End Exclusion with some 100 educators and NGOs; and a Regional Seminar organized on Quality of Education and Inclusive Education.

Al-Mabarrat Association put together the “Inclusive Schools” Celebrations of Global Action Week, in collaboration with UNESCO Office in Beirut with more than 300 educators from various schools and NGOs. One of the main activities was a series of interviews with children who had never been to school and work, and an interview with a woman who was 60 years old (the same age as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - which includes everyone's right to education).

What happened in Action Week 2007?

This year the celebration was marked with the tragic death of ten year old Ziad Ghandour, who died after he was subjected to physical punishment at school. A day of human-chains started with the national anthem, and moment of silence in respect for Ziad. All students and children then marched into the centre of the stadium in Beirut, and sang a special song, in demand for quality Education for All. At Al-Mabarrat Association, children performed plays and recited poems about the desire of all children to go to school, and what education meant to their lives. All participating schools also sent paper chains to the government.

Two students read letters to government officials asking them to ensure the right to free compulsory education for everyone quickly. Posters, letters and drawings by students were displayed in the stadium and at the end of the celebrations; students formed a huge human chain as hundreds of balloons in the colours of this year’s campaign were released.
