What happened in Action Week 2008? To draw the country’s attention to Global Action Week, the events began with a press conference organised jointly by the national coalition and the National Commission from UNESCO. It was attended by both the national television stations, radio stations and several newspaper representatives resulting in extensive publicity for the entire week. The World’s Biggest Lesson took place in 150 schools in all five areas of the country while the national demonstration took place in Large-Bassam, the first capital of the Ivory Coast. It was attended by 1,000 participants, government officials, including the mayors, the Minister of Education, and the members of Parliament, UNESCO, UNICEF, and other civil organisations. What happened in Action Week 2007?
The Big Chain Re-action took place in Abidjan’s most popular suburb, Abobo and was attended by parliamentarians, and the mayor. The chain was led by the wonderful advocate for education, the 14 year old girl, Korotoumou, who had been a fruit seller, and unable to go to school, until she took part in GCE’s World’s Biggest Lobby in 2004. Since her involvement with the campaign 3 years ago Korotoumou has been at school.
