What happened in Action Week 2009?
Ethiopia celebrated Global Action Week on April 27th in Addis Ababa. In this national event the new national adult education strategy was presented by a representative from the Ministry of Education.

Participants signed the Big read document. A research report on "Valuing Teachers" was presented by VSO Ethiopia. The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Education, Regional Education Bureaus, International Organizations, local CSOs, adult learners and the media.
What happened in Action Week 2008?
This year, the GAW was celebrated in Ethiopia nationally and in 9 regions in which international organisations (Development Partners), agencies, local NGOs and others working on or supporting education worked together to make demands for the provision of quality education to end exclusion coordinated by Basic Education Association in Ethiopia (BEA-E).

During the Action Week the major activities that were conducted both nationally and at regional levels were: Politicians/Officials back to school; Photographic exhibitions; conducting workshops and meetings; gathering of students, teachers and parents; panel discussions; drama plays; organizing the big hearing day; drama plays; street mass or public rally; circus and carnivals; radio Promotional Spots at national and regional levels; TV and Radio talk shows.

A one day workshop was organized in which conducted Nationally on April 24, 2008 at the Global Hotel. His Excellency Dr. Sintayehu Woldemichael, Minister of Education of Ethiopia, was the guest of honor who made an Opening Address at the venue of the workshop. The aim of this workshop was to share information, experiences and discuss on the achievements made so far and the challenges towards achieving EFA through implementation of ESDP III, and to launch the EFA Global Monitoring report 2008.

What happened in Action Week 2007?

If pictures speak more than a thousand words, millions of words were demanding education in the renowned Mesqel Square in Addis-Ababa – as 370 photographs displayed powerful images of education in Ethiopia for three months beginning on April 23, 2007. The event was inaugurated by an official from the Ministry of Education and the UNESCO Director in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia’s Action Week also hosted a children’s rally, photographic exhibitions, workshops, discussions and candle lighting ceremonies in different regions, and attracted national radio and TV coverage on a daily basis. Finally a panel discussion on Education was held in Addis Ababa, which was opened by the State Minister of Education H.E. Ato Fuad Ebrahim. Addressing other ministries, MPs, multilateral and bi-lateral organisations, civil society, the Basic Education Association in Ethiopia (BEA-E) and the UNESCO director expressed commitment towards the realization of EFA goals.
