What happened in Action Week 2009? Tens of thousands of people were involved in Global Action Week 2009. The participation of regional authorities was the highlight of the events. They took part in support of literacy and making it a priority. In that spirit they agreed to develop more programs to educate and train young people and adults.

What happened in Action Week 2008? The team in Burkina Faso outdid themselves by organising well attended events in each region of the country. Both the Prime Minister M Zongo Tertus, and the Minister of Education attended the World’s Biggest Lesson whilst similar lessons took place in all 13 regions of the country. Each region was represented by its local governor. The national highlight World’s Biggest Lesson was held in Koudougou, and was attended by 1,500 people including politicians, government officials, teachers, students and community leaders.

What happened in Action Week 2007?
Once again Action Week proved to be a hive of activity. More than 60,000 people took part in more than 10 regions. Many more people will have heard about the campaign as the right to free equitable education got debated on TV, radio and in conferences. During a commemoration event campaigners delivered messages in the form of personal testimonies to political and customary officials. Politicians then promised to: make free education available, to relieve the heavy burden on families, to increase the allocation to education from 12% to 20% of the national budget, to prioritise girls and people with disabilities and to improve teacher conditions. Finally the National EFA coalition’s statement was handed down a human chain, that stretched half a kilometre between the Ministry of Education and Parliament in the capital Ouagadougou, and given to the President of the Northern Regional Committee.
